Does Harbhajan Singh fit into India’s Test plans?

Virat Kohli wants to take twenty wickets in every Test match, he has said so repeatedly. Team director Ravi Shastri added weight to his captain’s words in the build-up to the first Test in Galle as well. “Five bowlers is always the first option,” he had said.

It can be concluded that there is a ready plan-of-action here. But evidence suggests that Kohli doesn’t know who his best five bowlers are. In the two Tests that he has had full authority over the Indian team so far Fatullah and Galle he has used a horses-for-courses policy. Against Bangladesh, with rain forecast he went in with three fast bowlers and two spinners. The weather proved true and his gamble nearly paid off.
