President Obama Historic Visit to Hiroshima.

President Obama has made a Historic visit to Hiroshima the most popular modern city in Japan. Since American forces dropped an atomic bomb on the city in 1945, killing an estimated 80,000 people and hastening the end of World War II. He said his visit was “a witness to how even the most painful of divides can be bridged”.

But he also says he will not be apologising for the attack. Obama said earlier in the week that he would not apologize for the Hiroshima bombing or the atomic bombing of Nagasaki three days later. Japanese bomb victim organizations have long pressed for an apology, viewing the use of atomic weapons as inhumane. Many American veteran groups and former prisoners of war have opposed an apology, arguing that the Hiroshima and Nagasaki bombings hastened the end of a long and brutal conflict.
